Startup Pitch winner Jochen Roef (traicie): “There is a big need to fundamentally rethink the way we recruit”

traicie is one of the two startups that have won a partnership for Demo_Day Europe on the 15th of April 2021. CEO Jochen Roef explains what traicie is and what to expect from his break-out at the free online event on April 15.

What is traicie?

“traicie is a CV prescreening algorithm that predicts the work style and soft skills of candidates based on Natural Language Processing of language patterns in CV, cover letter and LinkedIn profile. From all incoming resumes, traicie helps to quickly find and filter those applicants that have the closest ‘natural’ fit with the job requirements.”

What was your reaction when traicie won the startup pitch?

“I was excited, and I think that there is a big momentum in the hr-community and a big need to fundamentally rethink the way we recruit. I always say that there is old school recruitment where you look at diploma and sector experience. And now we are really starting to see the shift towards personality and culture fit. Because these two are really important if you want to do sustainable hiring. So I was pleased to see that the public voted for us because we are really focussing on the new parts of recruiting.”

What can we expect at your break-out?

“One of my most important tasks as CEO is demystifying natural language processing. So when people hear that you can predict their professional behavior from the way they write their resume and LinkedIn profile it kind of sounds like magic; which it is not, it is science. It’s natural language processing. It is a discipline on the intersection of data, and language science and psychology. I will be explaining how it works and actually showing how it works and what the technology is behind it.”
