In ‘In the Spotlight’, a promising recruitment tech vendor will tell its story. The innovative Job Platform Live Jobs from Portugal is using video technology to screen all your candidates. Rui Parafita, Co-Founder of the Lisbon-based tech vendor, tells us more about the organisation.
For the people who don’t know Live Jobs, can you tell us what it is? When is it founded and by who?
“In November 2018 we opened our doors for recruitment innovation in Portugal. Global companies use our video interviewing software helping them recruit top talent faster with video. We provide for all companies and recruiters an innovative, independent and easy-to-use platform, providing an interactive recruitment experience for all users, through our pre-recorded video interviewing technology. We are essentially in the Portuguese market, but our platform is global, any recruiter anywhere in the world can use. Live Jobs speed up the time-to-hire automating the pre-screening phase with our video interview software making more easy, transparent and powerful recruitment processes.”

Why was Live Jobs founded?
“We felt that there was a lack of innovation in recruitment processes mainly in the Portuguese market. Recruiters continue to waste hours and hours with mismatched CVs, making phone screening interviews and never see the candidate’s face and motivation, organize video calls and after a 2-minute interview, the recruiter knows it was a loss of time for all! So we just wanted to facilitate the process by giving candidates the chance to answer key recruitment questions in their own time and anywhere, freeing recruiters to take on other equally important tasks in their department.”
What are the main advantages?
“Live Jobs was developed solely to create a more interactive experience for all its users, whether they are candidates or recruiters. We have developed our own video pre-interview software in order to facilitate the candidate screening process. When we talk more and more about topics such as remote work and even more worrying about global warming, what is your role here as a recruiter? Is it really worth continuing to invite candidates to do a first face-to-face interview? As main advantages, we can highlight faster hiring with powerful video technology, more corporate hiring, zero geographical barriers between the candidate and the recruiter, and increased commitment of candidates to your company and your applications.”
“As you go deeper into this new technology of pre-recorded video interviews, you will begin to see that there are several ways to differentiate yourself in the market. Between 49 and 60 percent of the recruiters tell us that receiving video interviews almost immediately means that candidates are more likely to be selected. And this is a competitive advantage for recruiters and companies, as they can differentiate themselves as an employer brand due to their innovation in the way they recruit and communicate with their candidates.”
How does your software work for organizations that would like to use it?
“Our tool is very simple to use. Any candidate or recruiter can complete a recruitment process in just a few steps. We believe that the screening process of candidates should be effective and fun for both candidates and recruiters. Using short videos and digital pre-interviews, candidates respond to key questions previously defined by the company.”
What makes it unique?
“Video interview systems and ATS systems are still viewed with some distance by the most traditional recruiters. In these last two years, as specialists in recruitment by video, we feel that we have managed to give ‘new blood’ to the recruitment market and that is being different and unique. We want the difference that our company has made on the market to effectively make a difference in the lives of candidates and recruiters, only then does it make sense to make our software available to all users. During 2.5 years we have grown in numbers of available candidates, registered companies, and the value of our company brand in the market.”
What is your roadmap for 2021?
“We want to continue to monitor candidates and companies that use our tool and thereby increase our business. We have the recognition on the part of our users of the functionalities of our platform and this is the motivation to continue to develop new strategies that make life easier for candidates and recruiters. We do not intend to be seen as another platform that can generate unemployment in organizations, but rather to continue to be recognized as active partners in recruitment departments without compromising the security of your data and guaranteeing the legal length of the GDPR. We are thinking about AI integrating into our platform, but we feel that the market is not yet prepared for this.”
Where will Live Jobs be in 5 years?
“We follow the permanent innovation that is happening on other similar platforms and in other markets and with that we cannot stagnate. Much is said about the future of recruitment and video interview systems are on the list of priorities of corporate CEOs and we are following this line of thought. Next year we want to segment our platform in Portugal as a 100% technological and 100% Portuguese company capable of delivering an excellent service and we know that our experience will eventually lead us to enter other markets. The COVID-19 pandemic has led many companies to think about their way of attracting and retaining candidates and platforms such as Live Jobs have gained prominence around the world. We are currently closing some partnerships to take our brand to markets such as UK, India, Brazil and the Middle East.”
