In the fifth episode of AI in Recruitment: the ultimate clash of titans ChatGPT, and its Generative AI rival Google Bard. Who creates better job ads? Find out by listening on Spotify, Apple Podcasts or any other podcast platform.

The battle of Generative AI

It’s a clash of titans: Google Bard versus ChatGPT. ChatGPT officially launched in November of 2022, when it pretty much took the world by storm. It quickly rose to more than a million users. Currently, ChatGPT has over 100 million users. With regards to visitors on the website, it has grown steadily to approximately 1.6 billion users per month worldwide in the summer of 2023, as per the latest statistics.

“But now, we’ve got a challenger”, co-host Jasper Spanjaart said during the episode. “Google Bard was officially released in February 2023 to limited and select users only in the US and UK. The service was then opened to the EU in mid-July. The total number of users is still unknown, but Google expects numbers to surpass 1 billion users by 2025.”

$100 billion lost in market value

For any form of generative AI, powered by a large enterprise, it’s very much a case of: if you build it, they will come. Nevertheless, the initial launch of Google Bard could be considered a bit of a failure. Due to a mistake in the promo video about the James Web Telescope, Alphabet lost 100 billion in market value, feeding worries that the Google parent is losing ground to rival Microsoft.

Who creates the better job ad?

To put both to the test, AI in Recruitment gave both Bard and ChatGPT the same prompts to create job ads. “I think Google Bard’s texts are visibly shorter — and far more concise and straightforward”, Hemminga said. “It provides the essential information in a shorter format. It follows a more traditional structure with bullet points for requirements and benefits. On the other hand, ChatGPT’s appears to be more detailed, with an overview of the company, responsibilities, and qualifications.”
